Choose the right title and profile

Odyssey saves viewing progress so you can return to a film or episode without finding your place by hand. Start with the profile you normally use: progress belongs to a profile, and another person's progress is not a reliable guide to your own position.

You need a connected source that actually provides the title and permits playback. A poster or description can be available even when a playable source is not. Odyssey organises and plays media from sources you connect; it supplies no media.

Start or resume playback

  1. Open a film or series from Home, search results or your library.
  2. Check the title and release year. For a series, choose the intended season and episode.
  3. Select Play for a new title or Resume when progress is available.
  4. If the episode presents Continue watching?, choose Resume or Play from Beginning. Choose Cancel to leave the saved position alone.
  5. If Odyssey asks you to select a source, check the edition and choose a playable option you are authorised to use.

On iPhone and iPad, these controls are in the title's detail screen and episode list. On Apple TV, focus the control with the remote and select it. The TV and mobile layouts differ, so look for the label rather than assuming the same button position.

Why Resume may repeat a little dialogue

The current resume policy moves back approximately 20 seconds from a useful saved position. That short overlap helps restore the context of a scene. It is not necessarily a failure to save your last second.

The policy does not treat a position of ten seconds or less as meaningful progress. A title at or beyond 98% of its known duration is also not treated as an ordinary unfinished resume point. Incomplete duration information can affect which behaviour is available.

Continue Watching is a convenient way back to unfinished viewing. Hiding that shelf does not itself delete the saved progress. If the shelf is missing, check Settings → General → Show Continue Watching and the Continue Watching Limit.

An evening split in two

You stop a 90-minute film at 32 minutes. The next evening, you open it using the same profile and select Resume. Starting near 31 minutes 40 seconds is expected under the current policy. If you deliberately want the opening credits again, use the offered beginning action rather than repeatedly seeking backwards.

For a series, check the episode number before accepting the resume prompt. Different episodes can have similar artwork. An episode with no useful saved progress may go straight to playback instead of showing the choice.

Leaving and correcting progress

Use the player's Back control or the platform's normal back action to return to browsing. Reopen the title to check the resulting progress. An interrupted connection or forced app termination can leave an older position, so judge the saved point after an ordinary exit where possible.

The detail screen also provides watched-state actions, including Mark Watched and Mark Unwatched in the mobile quick actions. These describe whether you have finished a title; they are not a substitute for choosing a precise seek position.

If the expected position is missing

  • Another device starts elsewhere: compare the account and profile first, then follow the sync guide. Do not assume every setting and progress record has already reached every device.
  • The wrong edition opens: use the source guide. Two cuts of a film may have different durations and scene timings.
  • Play cannot start: check the source connection and title availability. A resume record cannot restore a removed file.
  • A series is blocked: read the Series Lock message before changing watched state. A shared viewing restriction is separate from a playback fault.

Quick answers

Does Resume download the film? No. It starts playback through an available connected source at a saved position.

Does a missing Continue Watching card mean my history is erased? Not by itself. Shelf visibility, its item limit, source access and whether the title is considered finished can all affect the card.
