Think of each rail as a useful shelf

A rail is a row of titles on Home. Odyssey's settings call the category Rails and the individual rows Home Shelves. You can organise these rows without editing the media files in your source.

The available shelves depend on your profile, catalogue and features. An empty shelf has no titles to display, and profile restrictions still apply after you rename or move it. Organisation is a way to find permitted content more easily, not a way around source access.

Reorder the shelves you use

  1. Open Settings → Rails and find Home Shelves.
  2. Find a shelf you use often.
  3. Use its Move Up or Move Down action to change its position. On iPhone and iPad, these actions are grouped in the shelf's management menu. TV and Mac layouts expose their controls differently.
  4. Return to Home and check the order with real titles in view.
  5. Repeat with another shelf only if it makes browsing easier.

The move actions are unavailable at the corresponding first or last position. That is a boundary of the list, not a save failure.

Add, edit and hide with care

Add Shelf offers eligible existing shelf sources as a starting point. Select a source to open the shelf editor. Choosing an existing editable shelf opens its editor so you can adjust its configuration.

On mobile, a custom shelf's management menu can offer Show or Hide. Editable non-built-in rows can offer Delete. Continue Watching and Upcoming are built-in rows with their own visibility controls; they are not treated like every other custom shelf.

Before deleting a carefully configured custom shelf, note the settings you may want to recreate. The guide does not promise a general undo history. Hiding a shelf, when offered, is the more reversible way to test a simpler Home layout.

Make rows shorter without changing the library

In Settings → General → Home Shelves, use Content Shelf Length to limit the titles shown before Show All. Use Continue Watching Limit separately for unfinished viewing.

Show Continue Watching and Show Upcoming control those built-in rows. Upcoming Within sets the window for upcoming items. Include Watchlist Premieres expands Upcoming to future films and episodes from the watchlist, in addition to the next dated episodes of shows you have started.

A future release date is information, not a guarantee of playback access on release day. Titles leave the Upcoming shelf when they air, while source availability must still be checked independently.

Give unfinished viewing priority

You usually watch one series at a time and use weekends for films. Move Continue Watching near the top, keep Watchlist nearby and reduce general shelf length so the first screen is easier to scan. Leave Upcoming visible if future episode dates help you plan.

Return to Home after each small change. If a shelf is empty, check whether it has eligible content rather than moving it repeatedly. If you simply dislike its position, moving it is sufficient; deleting and rebuilding it is unnecessary.

Understand what changes independently

The hero is the larger featured area, and its settings differ by platform. Where offered, Hero Style and Hero Source control its presentation. An empty selected source can leave the hero empty.

Weekly collections have their own calendar, region and seasonal choices under Rails. They are not guaranteed to contain the same titles as another profile or device. Follow the weekly-themes guide before treating a different selection as a layout fault.

Common problems and quick answers

My saved list vanished after a layout change: check its shelf visibility and source access. Moving or hiding a shelf does not itself remove every title from My List.

Can I sync every layout and display choice? Do not assume so. Some preferences belong to a managed profile, while device-specific choices remain local.

Does reducing shelf length delete titles? No. It changes the number presented before the broader list.
