Before you begin
- Connected supported recording service
- Profile permitted to access the recording
Recorded and Scheduled mean different things
Open Library → Recordings. The Home DVR library separates Recorded from Scheduled. Recorded contains saved recording items. Scheduled lets you inspect jobs and their current states, including ones that are running or did not finish successfully.
A scheduled item is not proof that a playable recording exists. Check its outcome and the saved media before relying on it.
The app version covered here uses Home DVR for this library. Cloud DVR is unavailable in this version; connecting Home DVR does not provide a cloud recording allowance.
Find a recording
- Use the profile and Home DVR connection relevant to the recording.
- Open Library → Recordings.
- Choose Recorded for saved items or Scheduled to inspect an upcoming or current job.
- Select the intended item and review its title, date and status. Saved recordings can also show their file size.
- Use Refresh or Retry if the view reports a loading error.
Access is checked against the active profile, current source and service. Another profile’s schedules are not automatically yours to edit. A service may separately allow completed recordings to be shared within the account; do not infer editing authority from visibility alone.
Play a saved or current recording
For an available saved item, choose Play. A running recording can offer Watch Recording when its source and readiness checks permit playback. Those controls are conditional; an entry without a playable action is not a promise that media has already been prepared.
If playback is still being prepared, wait for the current status. Repeatedly opening the same item does not create the missing buffer or repair a failed source.
When a stream reports that it changed or could not be seeked, reopen the recording. If the service says the stream is no longer available, check the item’s current status instead of relying on an old open player.
Edit and stop a scheduled item
A future recording can show Edit Recording. Review its timing and padding, then choose Save Changes. If the editor says the recording can no longer be edited, refresh its status; it may have started or changed since the screen opened.
Stop Recording ends an active recording while saving the recorded portion. Cancel Schedule cancels a future job. Discard Recording discards recorded media. Read each confirmation, particularly when moving between the Scheduled screen and an item’s detailed actions.
Worked example
Robin scheduled a documentary yesterday. In Library → Recordings, Robin first checks Scheduled and sees that the job completed. They then open Recorded, identify the documentary by its date and choose Play.
A second item still says Recording. Robin wants the recorded portion but no longer needs the rest, so they use Stop Recording and read the save confirmation. They avoid Discard Recording because that is a different outcome.
When an item is missing
Wrong view: check both Recorded and Scheduled. A failed or missed job may explain why no saved item appeared.
Wrong profile or service: confirm the active profile and Home DVR connection. Reconnecting a different host will not display the first host’s storage automatically.
Host or storage unavailable: check the running service, storage mount and free space. Do not delete account settings before checking the recorder.
Playback denied: permissions, source access or an expired/revoked link may be responsible. A previously visible item is not indefinite playback authority.
Is recording retention unlimited? This guide does not promise a retention period. Review the service’s actual storage and retention configuration.
