Before you begin
- Authorised live channels and a provider allowance for the required simultaneous streams.
- A device and network capable of playing the selected streams together.
Keep several live channels in view
Multi-View opens several live-channel players in a grid. It is useful for following parallel events or checking a second channel while keeping the first visible. Only one eligible tile owns the audio at a time, so choosing what you hear is separate from choosing what you see.
You need live channels that the current profile is allowed to play. Your provider must also permit enough simultaneous streams for the channels you open. Odyssey cannot override a provider's connection limit, and the grid asks more of the network and device than one stream.
Open the grid from Live TV
- Open Live TV and find the channel you want to start with.
- Open that channel's context menu. On Apple TV, use the channel's available hold/context action; on touch devices, use the corresponding long-press menu.
- Choose Open in Multi-View.
- Use Layout to choose one of the counts offered by your current device state.
- Select a playing tile to listen to it. Open a tile's context menu and choose Open Fullscreen when you want that channel to occupy the screen.
The implementation builds the initial grid from the selected channel and the current channel list. It is not a separate saved channel-recipe editor. On Apple TV, up to four candidate channels are prepared from that list before presentation.
Use the layout and audio controls
The tile you select becomes audible only when it is eligible to play audio. A failed or unavailable tile cannot reliably take over sound. When the current audible channel disappears or stops being eligible, Odyssey checks the remaining visible tiles for a valid audio choice.
The Layout picker changes how many of the prepared channels are visible. Its offered values come from the device's current performance policy. Avoid assuming that the largest layout will work with every combination of streams.
The app can show Memory pressure: showing one channel and reduce the layout to one. That message describes an active resource constraint. It does not prove the stream or device has been repaired; continue with a smaller layout and assess whether playback is stable.
Compare two live events
You have two authorised live channels showing different matches. Open Multi-View from the channel you care about most, then choose a smaller offered layout if you only need two pictures. Select the first tile for its commentary. When action starts in the second tile, select that tile to change the sound.
If you want to concentrate on that event, use Open Fullscreen. Returning to ordinary Live TV browsing is preferable to leaving unnecessary simultaneous streams running when your provider imposes a tight connection limit.
Leave without changing channel configuration
Choose Back at the top of Multi-View to leave the grid. The player releases the grid's playback ownership when the presentation disappears. Opening a tile fullscreen also hands that selection back to ordinary playback.
Changing the layout or audible tile does not rename, delete or favourite a channel. Those are channel-management actions in the original Live TV interface. If you want a permanent curated schedule, use Channel Studio rather than expecting Multi-View to save a programme.
When a tile is unavailable
- One tile fails: try the tile's retry action when offered, then test that channel fullscreen. Record whether only that channel fails.
- Every tile buffers: reduce the layout and check the connection and provider's simultaneous-stream allowance.
- A selected tile stays silent: confirm it is actually playing and has an audio track. Only one eligible tile should be audible.
- The grid reduces itself: read the memory-pressure message and use the smaller layout. Repeatedly forcing more streams is not a diagnosis.
Quick answers
Can I independently pause every tile? This guide verifies the layout, audio-selection, retry and fullscreen flow. It does not promise a multi-timeline editing interface.
Can Multi-View exceed my provider's stream limit? No. Each active stream is subject to the provider's permissions and capacity.
